Our recommended eSIMs for Thailand
The old routine of queuing for a local SIM at the airport is exactly what an eSIM removes. You buy online, install in minutes, and keep your home number active โ handy for the banking and two-factor codes you do not want to lose access to while travelling.

Coverage in Thailand
Coverage is strong across Bangkok, Chiang Mai and the main islands such as Phuket and Koh Samui, as travel eSIMs use Thailand's major networks. Smaller or more remote islands can be patchier, as they are for local SIMs too.
How much data do you need?
- โLight use (maps, messaging, ride apps): 1โ3GB per week is plenty.
- โNormal use (social, photos, some video): a 5GB+ plan with top-up option.
- โHeavy use or a longer stay: a larger data allowance is simplest.
Getting connected on arrival
- 1Buy your plan before you fly, while you still have your home connection.
- 2Install the eSIM when prompted (scan the QR code or tap install in the provider's app), and label the line so it is easy to find.
- 3On arrival, turn the travel eSIM's data on and enable data roaming for that line.
- 4Set your home line to 'data off' so you are never billed for roaming, and keep it active for calls, texts and two-factor codes.

Is an eSIM good for Thailand?
Yes โ Thailand has cheap data and strong coverage in tourist areas, and an eSIM lets you skip the airport SIM queue and land connected. Airalo tends to be the cheapest; Yesim adds flexible formats.
Does it work on the islands?
Coverage is good on the main islands like Phuket and Koh Samui. Smaller, remote islands can be patchier for any network.
Do I need to register my phone?
No. A travel eSIM roaming on Thai networks does not require the local registration a bought SIM sometimes does; just make sure your phone supports eSIM and is unlocked.
