Opened in 1928, the Peninsula Hong Kong has survived Japanese occupation, political upheaval, and the rise of a dozen competitors. It has emerged from each intact — and, in many respects, unmatched. We spent a week inside.
The Peninsula fleet of 14 Rolls-Royce Phantoms — painted in the house's distinctive Brewster Green — meet guests at the airport and deliver them to Salisbury Road. This is the Peninsula's way: before you arrive, you are already inside the experience.
The Tower Rooms
The 1994 tower — 30 floors of glass rising behind the original building — contains the most coveted rooms: harbour-facing suites with floor-to-ceiling windows revealing Victoria Harbour in its entirety. The Peninsula Suite on the 30th floor is one of Asia's great hotel rooms: 300 square metres, a full dining room, and a terrace that transforms at night into a private viewing platform over the city's famous symphony of lights.
“The Peninsula serves 500 afternoon teas daily. Each one is prepared to the same standard as the first.”
