Floating above the Otemachi district with panoramic views of Mount Fuji on clear mornings, Aman Tokyo redefines the urban sanctuary. We spent four nights inside Japan's most coveted address.
The elevator opens not onto a lobby, but into the clouds. Aman Tokyo occupies the top six floors of the Otemachi Tower, and the moment you step out at reception — a cathedral of washi paper, stone, and ancient timber — the city below feels like another dimension.
Architecture as Philosophy
Kerry Hill Architects conceived every detail as a meditation on Japanese aesthetics. The 84 rooms and suites are vast by Tokyo standards — the entry Park Suite at 77 square metres feels almost rural in its quietude. Washi screens filter the afternoon light into something amber and ancient. The stone bathtubs are carved from a single block of basalt.
“A hotel that makes you feel as though you have discovered Japan for the first time.”
The Aman Spa
Six treatment rooms anchor a spa that spans an entire floor. The highlight is the 30-metre indoor swimming pool — lined in dark stone and bathed in natural light filtered through screens — which at night becomes one of the most atmospheric spaces in Asia. Book the Aman Signature Journey: three hours of ritual that begins with forest bathing sound therapy and ends with a Japanese hot stone massage.
