Claridge's is less a hotel than an institution — one that has housed kings, prime ministers, and more than its share of exiled royalty. A new programme of room restorations makes this the perfect moment to book.
The foyer is quiet in the way that only certain grand hotels are quiet — not silent, but hushed with a particular expectation, as if everyone present is aware that they are inside somewhere that matters. The 1929 Art Deco interiors, a collaboration between Basil Ionides and Oswald Milne, remain the finest hotel interiors in London.
The Rooms
The Linley Rooms — conceived by furniture maker and designer David Linley — occupy several floors and represent the hotel at its most contemporary. The Brook Penthouses, overlooking Brook Street through floor-to-ceiling windows, are the pinnacle: at 300 square metres each, they are among the largest hotel suites in London.
“Winston Churchill declared Suite 212 Yugoslav territory so that Crown Prince Alexander could be born there on British soil. Some addresses are simply more address than others.”
